Portrait Aeschbacher AG
Hans-Jürg AeschbacherMy great-grandfather founded a small bookbinding company in Worb in 1881. In order to better distribute the risks this incurred, he also sought out other untapped market segments and constantly developed them. One of the first areas of expansion was the stationery shop in my great-grandmother's kitchen, where sales took place through the window. Soon, a book printing business was added. As early as in 1893, the first publishing company was founded. Since Christian's parents were in the dairy business,
it seemed appropriate to produce milk books. Various colleagues were called upon to help print these large sheets, since the company's capacity was much too low at the outset. The bound books were then delivered personally, together with items of stationery – and as far as the Schwarzenburg area – by the boss on his tricycle. In time, other market niches were discovered, such as postcards with a view of Worb, picture frames with a technique that made them impermeable to dust (Ch. Aeschbacher's system), and the building of multi-layered presses and setting equipment for bookbinders (awarded a diploma in 1896 in Geneva).
The search for new directions continued with the next generations. In 1913, a ticket cutting and printing unit was added. In 1924, the production of the Konolfingen official bulletin was taken over. To describe all of the company's other developments would require far more space than we have at our disposal here!
